About this course
Design engineering occupies the space where creative problem-solving meets technical rigour, asking not just how things should look but how they can be designed, engineered, and manufactured to work effectively in the real world. It draws on both the imaginative thinking of design and the analytical methods of engineering, developing practitioners who can take an idea from initial concept through detailed design and prototyping to manufacture. The field encompasses consumer products, medical devices, transport systems, infrastructure components, and virtually anything that is designed to be built and used. At Middlesex University this three-year full-time programme includes a foundation year, which provides a structured introduction to design and engineering fundamentals before the main degree begins.
