About this course

Mechanical engineering is one of the broadest and most enduring of the engineering disciplines, concerned with the design, analysis and manufacture of mechanical systems. From engines and turbines to robotics, medical devices and renewable energy infrastructure, mechanical engineers work at the interface of physics, mathematics and creative problem-solving. The field demands both theoretical rigour and practical imagination, and its graduates are equipped to work across virtually every industry that makes or moves things. At Cardiff, this three-year full-time programme gives you a thorough grounding in the core subjects of mechanical engineering. You will study the fundamental disciplines of statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, materials science and manufacturing processes, alongside the mathematical and computational tools that engineers use to analyse and model systems.
