Speech and Language Therapy is the healthcare profession concerned with the assessment and treatment of communication disorders and difficulties with eating, drinking and swallowing. It is a discipline that draws on linguistics, anatomy, physiology, psychology and neuroscience to understand how speech and language develop and how they can be disrupted by a wide range of conditions, including developmental disorders, stroke, acquired brain injury, progressive neurological disease, voice disorders, and fluency difficulties such as stammering.
