Stable Workers
Stable workers look after horses and other farm animals every single day. They feed them, clean their homes, watch for signs of illness and make sure the animals are healthy and happy. Without stable workers, farms and riding stables couldn't run.

The role
As a Stable Worker, you spend your day caring for horses and animals. You feed them at the right times with the right food, fill their water, muck out their stalls to keep them clean and healthy, and watch them closely to spot if any are ill or lame. You also help groom and exercise them, and you might help a vet if an animal needs treatment.
The work is physical - early starts, heavy lifting, all weathers. But many stable workers love working with animals and being outdoors. You'll learn a lot about animal behaviour and health, and you'll get to know each animal's personality. If you're organized and good with your hands, and you don't mind hard graft, this job can be really rewarding.
Daily responsibilities
- Feed and water animals according to established schedules and dietary requirements.
- Monitor the health and behaviour of livestock, identifying any signs of illness or distress.
- Maintain clean and safe living conditions for animals, including mucking out stalls and cleaning pens.
- Assist with breeding programs, ensuring proper care and management of pregnant animals.
- Record and report on animal health, feeding schedules, and any incidents to farm management.
- Operate and maintain farm equipment and machinery used in the care of livestock.
- Work collaboratively with veterinarians and other agricultural professionals to implement health care plans.
- Participate in training and development programs to enhance skills and knowledge in animal husbandry.
