The role

As an IT Business Analyst, you're the translator between people and computers. A company might have a problem - maybe their sales team can't see customer information quickly, or the warehouse system is too slow - and your job is to work out exactly what they need and then tell the IT department how to fix it.

You spend a lot of time asking questions and listening. You'll meet with managers and staff, understand their day-to-day problems, and sketch out what a better system would look like. Then you write clear instructions for the IT team to build it. When it's finished, you help test it to make sure it actually works for the people who'll use it. It's a mix of detective work, careful thinking, and being able to explain technical ideas in plain English.

Daily responsibilities

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and document business requirements and needs.
  • Analyze existing IT systems and processes to identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop detailed functional specifications for IT solutions and enhancements.
  • Facilitate workshops and meetings to elicit feedback and validate requirements.
  • Create process maps and models to visualize workflows and business processes.
  • Conduct user acceptance testing (UAT) to ensure solutions meet business needs.
  • Provide ongoing support and training to end-users on new systems and processes.
