Career Progression Path
Is this the only route?
This is the standard academic trajectory, but modern careers are highly flexible. You can often skip stages by entering the industry with an advanced qualification (like a Master's or PhD), or pivot sideways from a related discipline.
University Degree
Usually 3 to 4 years of full-time academic study, explicitly preparing you for the theoretical realities of the industry.
Junior Transcriptionist
In this entry-level role, you will assist in transcribing audio files, gaining experience in various transcription tools and techniques while developing your skills in accuracy and speed.
Mid-level Transcription Specialist
At this stage, you will handle more complex transcription projects, possibly specialising in areas such as legal or medical transcription, and may begin mentoring junior staff.
Senior Transcription Manager
In a senior role, you will oversee transcription projects, manage teams, and ensure quality control across all outputs, contributing to strategic decisions within the organisation.
