Career Progression Path
Is this the only route?
This is the standard academic trajectory, but modern careers are highly flexible. You can often skip stages by entering the industry with an advanced qualification (like a Master's or PhD), or pivot sideways from a related discipline.
University Degree
Usually 3 to 4 years of full-time academic study, explicitly preparing you for the theoretical realities of the industry.
Junior Special Education Teacher
As a Junior Special Education Teacher, you will assist in the development and implementation of educational programmes for students with special needs, working under the guidance of more experienced teachers.
Mid-level Special Education Teacher
In a mid-level role, you will take on greater responsibility for developing IEPs and leading classroom activities, while mentoring junior staff and collaborating with external specialists.
Senior Special Education Teacher / SEN Coordinator
At the peak of your career, you will oversee special education programmes, lead a team of educators, and play a key role in shaping school policy and practice regarding special educational needs.
