Career Progression Path
Is this the only route?
This is the standard academic trajectory, but modern careers are highly flexible. You can often skip stages by entering the industry with an advanced qualification (like a Master's or PhD), or pivot sideways from a related discipline.
University Degree
Usually 3 to 4 years of full-time academic study, explicitly preparing you for the theoretical realities of the industry.
Junior Social Researcher
In this entry-level role, you will assist in data collection and analysis, gaining hands-on experience in research methodologies and tools.
Mid-level Social Researcher
At this stage, you will lead research projects, manage data analysis, and mentor junior researchers, contributing to significant studies.
Senior Social Researcher/Head of Research
In a senior role, you will oversee large-scale research initiatives, influence policy decisions, and represent your organisation at high-level conferences.
