Is this the only route?
This is the standard academic trajectory, but modern careers are highly flexible. You can often skip stages by entering the industry with an advanced qualification (like a Master's or PhD), or pivot sideways from a related discipline.
University Degree
Usually 3 to 4 years of full-time academic study, explicitly preparing you for the theoretical realities of the industry.
Junior Shearer
As a junior shearer, you will assist experienced shearers and learn the ropes of the trade, gaining hands-on experience in sheep handling and shearing.
Mid-Level Shearer
In this role, you will take on more responsibility, shearing larger flocks independently and ensuring high-quality wool production.
Senior Shearer
As a senior shearer, you will oversee shearing operations, train junior shearers, and work closely with farm management to optimise wool production.
