Is this the only route?
This is the standard academic trajectory, but modern careers are highly flexible. You can often skip stages by entering the industry with an advanced qualification (like a Master's or PhD), or pivot sideways from a related discipline.
University Degree
Usually 3 to 4 years of full-time academic study, explicitly preparing you for the theoretical realities of the industry.
Crime Scene Technician
In this role, you’ll assist in the initial investigation of crime scenes, collecting evidence, taking photographs, and ensuring the area is preserved for further analysis.
Scene of Crime Officer
As a Scene of Crime Officer, you’ll conduct detailed examinations of crime scenes, gather and analyze evidence, and work closely with law enforcement to support investigations.
Senior Forensic Investigator
At the peak of your career, you’ll lead investigations, mentor junior officers, and may even testify as an expert witness in court, playing a crucial role in the justice system.
