Career Progression Path
Is this the only route?
This is the standard academic trajectory, but modern careers are highly flexible. You can often skip stages by entering the industry with an advanced qualification (like a Master's or PhD), or pivot sideways from a related discipline.
University Degree
Usually 3 to 4 years of full-time academic study, explicitly preparing you for the theoretical realities of the industry.
Junior Psychotherapist
In this entry-level role, you will support clients under the supervision of experienced therapists, gaining valuable hands-on experience in therapeutic techniques and client management.
Mid-Level Psychotherapist
As a mid-level psychotherapist, you will manage your own caseload, providing therapy to clients independently while continuing to develop your skills and specialisations.
Senior Psychotherapist
In a senior role, you will lead therapeutic programmes, mentor junior therapists, and may also engage in research or teaching within the field.
