Career Progression Path
Is this the only route?
This is the standard academic trajectory, but modern careers are highly flexible. You can often skip stages by entering the industry with an advanced qualification (like a Master's or PhD), or pivot sideways from a related discipline.
University Degree
Usually 3 to 4 years of full-time academic study, explicitly preparing you for the theoretical realities of the industry.
Junior Music Teacher
As a Junior Music Teacher, you will begin your career by teaching basic music concepts and techniques to beginners. This role often involves shadowing more experienced teachers and gradually taking on more responsibilities.
Mid-Level Music Teacher
In the Mid-Level Music Teacher role, you will have a solid roster of students and be responsible for developing advanced lesson plans. You may also start to specialise in certain instruments or genres.
Senior Music Educator
As a Senior Music Educator, you will lead workshops, mentor junior teachers, and possibly manage a music school or programme. Your expertise will be sought after in the community, and you may also engage in performance opportunities.
