Career Progression Path
Is this the only route?
This is the standard academic trajectory, but modern careers are highly flexible. You can often skip stages by entering the industry with an advanced qualification (like a Master's or PhD), or pivot sideways from a related discipline.
University Degree
Usually 3 to 4 years of full-time academic study, explicitly preparing you for the theoretical realities of the industry.
Junior Radiographer
As a Junior Radiographer, you will assist in imaging procedures, gaining hands-on experience while working under the supervision of senior staff. This stage is crucial for developing practical skills and understanding the workflow in a clinical setting.
Mid-Level Radiographer
In a Mid-Level role, you will take on more complex imaging tasks and may specialise in certain areas such as MRI or CT. You will also mentor junior staff and contribute to departmental improvements.
Senior Radiographer
As a Senior Radiographer, you will lead imaging teams, oversee quality control, and implement new technologies. You will play a key role in strategic planning and may engage in research or teaching.
