Career Progression Path
Is this the only route?
This is the standard academic trajectory, but modern careers are highly flexible. You can often skip stages by entering the industry with an advanced qualification (like a Master's or PhD), or pivot sideways from a related discipline.
University Degree
Usually 3 to 4 years of full-time academic study, explicitly preparing you for the theoretical realities of the industry.
Junior Editor
In this role, you will assist senior editors in reviewing content, conducting research, and learning the ropes of the editing process.
Mid-Level Editor
You will take on more responsibility, managing projects and mentoring junior staff while ensuring content meets editorial standards.
Senior Editor
As a senior editor, you will lead editorial teams, set strategic direction for content, and make high-level decisions that impact the organisation.
