Career Progression Path
Is this the only route?
This is the standard academic trajectory, but modern careers are highly flexible. You can often skip stages by entering the industry with an advanced qualification (like a Master's or PhD), or pivot sideways from a related discipline.
University Degree
Usually 3 to 4 years of full-time academic study, explicitly preparing you for the theoretical realities of the industry.
Junior Landscape Architect
In this entry-level role, you will assist senior landscape architects in the design and planning of projects, gaining hands-on experience in site assessments and design software.
Mid-level Landscape Architect
At this stage, you will take on more responsibility, leading projects and liaising directly with clients while mentoring junior staff.
Senior Landscape Architect / Head of Landscape Design
In a senior role, you will oversee large-scale projects, manage teams, and contribute to strategic planning and business development within your organisation.
