Is this the only route?
This is the standard academic trajectory, but modern careers are highly flexible. You can often skip stages by entering the industry with an advanced qualification (like a Master's or PhD), or pivot sideways from a related discipline.
University Degree
Usually 3 to 4 years of full-time academic study, explicitly preparing you for the theoretical realities of the industry.
Junior Underwriter
As a Junior Underwriter, you will assist in evaluating insurance applications and learning the fundamentals of risk assessment under the guidance of senior underwriters.
Mid-Level Underwriter
In this role, you will independently assess applications, calculate premiums, and make underwriting decisions, while also mentoring junior staff.
Senior Underwriter
As a Senior Underwriter, you will lead underwriting teams, develop strategies for risk management, and play a key role in shaping company policies and practices.
