Career Progression Path
Is this the only route?
This is the standard academic trajectory, but modern careers are highly flexible. You can often skip stages by entering the industry with an advanced qualification (like a Master's or PhD), or pivot sideways from a related discipline.
University Degree
Usually 3 to 4 years of full-time academic study, explicitly preparing you for the theoretical realities of the industry.
Junior HR Generalist
In this entry-level role, you will assist with recruitment, onboarding, and basic employee relations tasks, gaining valuable experience in the HR field.
Mid-level HR Generalist
At this stage, you will take on more complex HR issues, manage recruitment campaigns, and develop HR policies, contributing significantly to the HR strategy.
Senior HR Generalist/HR Manager
In a senior role, you will lead the HR function, develop strategic HR initiatives, and influence organisational change, playing a key role in shaping the company's future.
