Career Progression Path
Is this the only route?
This is the standard academic trajectory, but modern careers are highly flexible. You can often skip stages by entering the industry with an advanced qualification (like a Master's or PhD), or pivot sideways from a related discipline.
University Degree
Usually 3 to 4 years of full-time academic study, explicitly preparing you for the theoretical realities of the industry.
Junior Estimator
In this entry-level role, you will assist in preparing cost estimates and learn the fundamentals of project estimation under the guidance of senior staff.
Estimating Manager
As a mid-level professional, you will lead estimation projects, manage a team of junior estimators, and liaise with clients to ensure project requirements are met.
Estimating Director
In this senior role, you will oversee all estimation activities, develop strategic plans for the department, and represent the company in high-stakes negotiations.
