Career Progression Path
Is this the only route?
This is the standard academic trajectory, but modern careers are highly flexible. You can often skip stages by entering the industry with an advanced qualification (like a Master's or PhD), or pivot sideways from a related discipline.
University Degree
Usually 3 to 4 years of full-time academic study, explicitly preparing you for the theoretical realities of the industry.
Junior Environmental Educator
In this entry-level role, you will assist in the delivery of educational programmes, support senior educators, and gain hands-on experience in environmental education.
Mid-level Environmental Educator
At this stage, you will lead your own programmes, develop educational content, and engage with a wider audience, including schools and community groups.
Senior Environmental Educator/Programme Manager
In a senior role, you will oversee educational initiatives, manage teams, and influence policy while representing your organisation at national forums.
