Is this the only route?
This is the standard academic trajectory, but modern careers are highly flexible. You can often skip stages by entering the industry with an advanced qualification (like a Master's or PhD), or pivot sideways from a related discipline.
University Degree
Usually 3 to 4 years of full-time academic study, explicitly preparing you for the theoretical realities of the industry.
Junior Rigger
As a Junior Rigger, you will assist experienced riggers in lifting operations, learning the ropes of the trade while gaining hands-on experience on construction sites.
Mid-Level Rigger
In this role, you will take on more responsibility, planning and executing complex lifting operations while mentoring junior riggers and ensuring compliance with safety standards.
Senior Rigger
As a Senior Rigger, you will lead rigging teams on large-scale projects, oversee safety protocols, and liaise with project managers to ensure successful project delivery.
