Career Progression Path
Is this the only route?
This is the standard academic trajectory, but modern careers are highly flexible. You can often skip stages by entering the industry with an advanced qualification (like a Master's or PhD), or pivot sideways from a related discipline.
University Degree
Usually 3 to 4 years of full-time academic study, explicitly preparing you for the theoretical realities of the industry.
Junior Employment Law Advisor
In this entry-level role, you will assist senior advisors in providing legal support, conducting research, and drafting documents. You will gain practical experience in employment law and develop your understanding of workplace regulations.
Mid-level Employment Law Advisor
At this stage, you will take on more complex cases, provide direct client advice, and represent clients in negotiations. You will also mentor junior advisors and contribute to training sessions.
Senior Employment Law Advisor
In a senior role, you will lead a team of advisors, manage high-profile cases, and develop strategic legal policies for organisations. You will be recognised as an expert in employment law and may also engage in public speaking or publishing articles in legal journals.
