Is this the only route?
This is the standard academic trajectory, but modern careers are highly flexible. You can often skip stages by entering the industry with an advanced qualification (like a Master's or PhD), or pivot sideways from a related discipline.
University Degree
Usually 3 to 4 years of full-time academic study, explicitly preparing you for the theoretical realities of the industry.
Junior Dog Groomer
As a Junior Dog Groomer, you’ll assist in grooming dogs, bathing, and learning basic training techniques. You'll work under the supervision of experienced groomers and trainers, gaining hands-on experience.
Dog Groomer and Trainer
In this role, you’ll take on more responsibilities, grooming a variety of breeds and training dogs in basic commands and behaviors. You'll build a loyal client base and may even start to offer specialized services.
Senior Dog Groomer and Trainer
At the peak of your career, you’ll run your own grooming and training business, or work as a lead trainer in a reputable facility. You’ll have a strong reputation in the community and may even mentor new groomers and trainers.
