Career Progression Path
Is this the only route?
This is the standard academic trajectory, but modern careers are highly flexible. You can often skip stages by entering the industry with an advanced qualification (like a Master's or PhD), or pivot sideways from a related discipline.
University Degree
Usually 3 to 4 years of full-time academic study, explicitly preparing you for the theoretical realities of the industry.
Junior DJ
As a Junior DJ, you will assist in setting up equipment and learning the basics of mixing music. This stage often involves performing at smaller venues or private events to gain experience.
Mid-Level DJ
In this role, you will have established a personal brand and a following. You will perform at larger venues and festivals, often collaborating with other artists and promoters.
Senior DJ
As a Senior DJ, you will be a recognised name in the industry, performing at major events and festivals. You may also mentor junior DJs and have opportunities for international gigs.
