Career Progression Path
Is this the only route?
This is the standard academic trajectory, but modern careers are highly flexible. You can often skip stages by entering the industry with an advanced qualification (like a Master's or PhD), or pivot sideways from a related discipline.
University Degree
Usually 3 to 4 years of full-time academic study, explicitly preparing you for the theoretical realities of the industry.
Junior Diplomat
As a Junior Diplomat, you will assist in research and administrative tasks, gaining exposure to the workings of international diplomacy.
Mid-level Diplomat
In this role, you will manage specific portfolios, engage in negotiations, and represent the UK at various international forums.
Senior Diplomat/Head of Mission
At this peak career stage, you will lead diplomatic missions, shape foreign policy, and advise high-level government officials on international matters.
