Career Progression Path
Is this the only route?
This is the standard academic trajectory, but modern careers are highly flexible. You can often skip stages by entering the industry with an advanced qualification (like a Master's or PhD), or pivot sideways from a related discipline.
University Degree
Usually 3 to 4 years of full-time academic study, explicitly preparing you for the theoretical realities of the industry.
Junior Tradesperson
As a Junior Tradesperson, you will assist experienced tradespeople, learning the ropes and gaining practical experience on-site. Your role will involve basic tasks and supporting the team in various construction activities.
Mid-Level Tradesperson
In a Mid-Level role, you will take on more responsibility, managing your own tasks and possibly supervising junior staff. You will be expected to work independently and ensure high-quality standards are met in your work.
Senior Tradesperson or Site Supervisor
As a Senior Tradesperson or Site Supervisor, you will oversee projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget. You will be responsible for managing teams, liaising with clients, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
