Career Progression Path
Is this the only route?
This is the standard academic trajectory, but modern careers are highly flexible. You can often skip stages by entering the industry with an advanced qualification (like a Master's or PhD), or pivot sideways from a related discipline.
University Degree
Usually 3 to 4 years of full-time academic study, explicitly preparing you for the theoretical realities of the industry.
Junior Compliance Officer
In this entry-level role, you will assist senior compliance staff in conducting audits and preparing reports. You will gain hands-on experience in compliance processes and learn about the regulatory landscape.
Mid-level Compliance Officer
At this stage, you will take on more responsibility, leading compliance audits and training sessions. You will also begin to develop compliance strategies and work closely with management.
Senior Compliance Officer/Head of Compliance
In this peak career role, you will oversee the entire compliance function, develop organisational compliance strategies, and represent the company in discussions with regulatory bodies. Your leadership will shape the compliance culture of the organisation.
