Career Progression Path
Is this the only route?
This is the standard academic trajectory, but modern careers are highly flexible. You can often skip stages by entering the industry with an advanced qualification (like a Master's or PhD), or pivot sideways from a related discipline.
University Degree
Usually 3 to 4 years of full-time academic study, explicitly preparing you for the theoretical realities of the industry.
Junior Child Psychologist
In this entry-level role, you will assist senior psychologists in assessments and therapy sessions, gaining practical experience and understanding of child psychology.
Mid-level Child Psychologist
At this stage, you will independently manage a caseload of clients, conducting assessments and providing therapy, while also contributing to research and training.
Senior Child Psychologist
In a senior role, you will lead teams, develop programmes, and influence policy, while mentoring junior psychologists and shaping the future of child mental health services.
