Career Progression Path
Is this the only route?
This is the standard academic trajectory, but modern careers are highly flexible. You can often skip stages by entering the industry with an advanced qualification (like a Master's or PhD), or pivot sideways from a related discipline.
University Degree
Usually 3 to 4 years of full-time academic study, explicitly preparing you for the theoretical realities of the industry.
Junior Carpenter
As a Junior Carpenter, you will assist experienced carpenters on-site, learning the trade while performing basic tasks such as measuring and cutting materials, and helping with installations.
Mid-Level Carpenter
Mid-Level Carpenters take on more complex tasks, including managing small projects, mentoring juniors, and ensuring quality control on-site. You will have a solid understanding of building regulations and be able to work independently.
Senior Carpenter
Senior Carpenters lead projects, oversee teams, and are responsible for high-level decision-making. You will be expected to have a deep knowledge of carpentry techniques, project management, and client relations.
