Mathematics is the study of number, structure, space, and change, and it is the language in which the deepest patterns of the natural world are expressed. A mathematics degree develops not only the ability to calculate and to work with abstract structures, but also a precise, logical way of thinking that is genuinely transferable to almost any context where problems need to be solved and evidence needs to be evaluated. It is one of the most demanding and one of the most versatile degrees available. At Aberystwyth University, the BSc Mathematics with integrated foundation year is designed for students who do not yet have the background to enter the main degree directly, whether because they studied different subjects, have been out of education for some time, or need to build confidence in mathematical thinking before tackling degree-level work.
