About University of the Highlands and Islands

The University of the Highlands and Islands is a distributed university and further-education partnership spread across the Highlands, Islands, and Moray of Scotland, with its academic partner network spanning from Shetland to Argyll. Formed formally as a university in 2011, it serves a vast and sparsely populated geographic area through a mix of on-campus and online study.

UHI has distinctive strengths in subjects well suited to its environment: aquaculture, archaeology, Gaelic language and culture, rural health, outdoor and adventure education, and renewable energy. The breadth of its network means students can access higher education close to their home community across much of rural Scotland, an important feature for a region where relocation to a city campus is often not practical.
