About this course

Computer science is the study of computation, algorithms, data structures, and the software and hardware systems through which computing is realised. It is a discipline that combines the rigour of mathematical logic and formal reasoning with the creativity of system design and programming, and it underpins virtually every aspect of the digital economy. From the applications you use daily to the infrastructure that runs the internet, the principles of computer science are at work, and the people who understand them are in growing demand across almost every sector.

At Edge Hill University, this part-time programme allows you to explore both hardware and software, examining how systems work at multiple levels and developing your ability to think computationally about problems and their solutions. You will study new systems and methodologies, developing the creativity and originality that drive technology forward. The degree is accredited by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, which provides professional recognition and connects your qualification to the standards of the computing profession.

The programme includes a sandwich year in industry, a year abroad, and work placement opportunities, meaning that you will be able to develop your professional experience and international perspective alongside your academic study, even while studying part-time.
