Professional and Intercultural Communication with Intercalated Year

Professional and intercultural communication addresses one of the defining challenges of contemporary working life: communicating effectively across cultural, organisational and linguistic contexts in an environment where business is increasingly global and workforces are increasingly diverse. The discipline examines how English functions as a lingua franca in professional and international settings, how communication styles and expectations differ across cultures, and how the ability to navigate these differences with skill and awareness becomes a genuine professional asset. It draws on applied linguistics, communication theory, cultural studies and business communication to build both analytical understanding and practical capability.

At the University of Warwick you will study for four years full-time, including a year abroad that situates you directly within an international professional or academic environment where the skills the degree develops are immediately relevant. You will develop advanced communication skills for international business contexts, learning to analyse and address real-world communication challenges using English across multicultural and professional settings. The programme builds the ability to move fluently between different organisational and cultural communication registers, preparing you for the demands of working in complex, internationally diverse environments.

Graduates work in international business, communications, public relations, human resources, management consultancy, education, public sector organisations and international organisations where effective cross-cultural communication is central to the work.
