About this course

Mechanical engineering is one of the foundational engineering disciplines, concerned with the design, analysis, manufacture, and maintenance of systems and devices that convert energy and movement into useful work. At the University of Cumbria, this four-year full-time Mechanical Engineering degree with an integrated foundation year has been developed in collaboration with industry partners, combining core engineering science, mathematics, and design with hands-on, project-based learning in modern technical facilities. The foundation year provides a structured and supported entry for students who need additional preparation in mathematics and physics, and the main degree builds a strong foundation in electromechanical engineering, thermofluids, materials, and solid mechanics while also exploring advanced topics including robotics and digital manufacturing as you progress.
