Events Management and International Tourism
Events management and international tourism together address two of the most dynamic sectors in the global hospitality and leisure economy. Events, from corporate conferences and trade exhibitions to music festivals, sporting occasions, and cultural celebrations, bring people together around shared experiences. International tourism connects people to destinations, cultures, and experiences around the world.
Both require sophisticated management skills, creative thinking, commercial awareness, and the ability to deliver complex projects under pressure.
At the University of Chester this four-year full-time programme includes a foundation year, which provides the academic and professional foundations needed before you engage with the main degree content. This makes the programme accessible to students from a wide range of backgrounds who have the enthusiasm and aptitude for these industries but would benefit from a structured introduction to degree-level study. The programme also includes a year abroad, giving you direct international experience in a field that is inherently global in its operation.
You will study event design and project management, venue and supplier management, festival and conference operations, destination marketing, sustainable tourism, consumer behaviour, and the business management principles that underpin effective operation in both industries. The year abroad places you in a different tourism and events environment, enriching your professional understanding and your international outlook.
Graduates go on to careers in event management, venue management, festival and conference production, destination management, tour operations, hotel management, and tourism policy. The combination of event and tourism knowledge, together with international experience, is valued across a sector that recruits globally and prizes both practical competence and cultural awareness. Many graduates also continue to postgraduate study in events, tourism, or hospitality management.
