About this course

International business with French prepares you for careers in a globalised economy where linguistic ability and cultural understanding are genuine competitive advantages. The combination allows you to develop the strategic, financial, and operational knowledge of international business alongside substantive fluency in French and a deep understanding of French-speaking business culture, society, politics, and history. In an environment where organisations increasingly operate across borders, professionals who can communicate and build relationships in another language are particularly well placed.

This four-year programme at Sheffield Hallam University covers French business practices, cultures, societies, politics, and history, integrating language development with the study of international business in a way that makes each strand richer. The programme includes a foundation year for those who would benefit from additional preparation before degree-level study, and a unique study abroad semester together with work placements that can provide up to 18 months of international experience. This extended combination of study and work in French-speaking environments is a defining feature of the programme, giving you a depth of professional and cultural immersion that goes well beyond a standard language year.

Graduates are well placed for international management roles, export and trade positions, roles in French-speaking markets, careers in European institutions and international organisations, and positions within multinational companies across a wide range of sectors. The combination of business knowledge and language proficiency is particularly valued in financial services, consultancy, luxury goods, logistics, and the technology sector, all of which have significant French-speaking operations. Many graduates pursue postgraduate study in international business, European studies, management, or an MBA.

A great decision
This is the perfect place to study this subject. The best part: the consulting projects with real companies genuinely prepare you for the working world. If I'm honest, the timetable has some awkward 9am / Friday afternoon slots. On the city

Highly recommend
The course has exceeded my expectations. The best part: the teaching staff are genuinely world-class and accessible. If I'm honest, a few modules feel under-resourced compared to the flagship ones. On the city — the city is a brilliant stud
