Materials Science and Engineering
This BEng Materials Science and Engineering degree provides a fast track towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) status and is ranked high in the league tables. Explore the science and engineering behind the materials transforming our world, from clean energy to biomedical innovation. The development of new and improved materials is at the heart of a huge range of technologies.
These can be from the objects we use every day from food packaging, novel batteries and fuel cells that power electric vehicles, to more advanced materials for biomedical applications, such as implants. Our Materials Science and Engineering degree will give you the opportunity to deepen your knowledge and understanding of the scientific, engineering and design aspects of materials, their structure, properties, processing, in-service behaviour and environmental impact. At Loughborough, our course will take you from the fundamental science and engineering of materials to the cutting-edge of the subject.
In year three, you will complete a research project on a specific topic of interest supervised by a member of the academic staff and potentially in collaboration with an industrial partner. Sustainability is embedded within our programmes as materials plays a key role in achieving targets such as Net Zero and UN Sustainable Development Goals.
