About this course

Business enterprise is the study of how new and growing businesses are created, sustained, and developed. It draws on entrepreneurship theory, business management, marketing, finance, and innovation to equip you with both the knowledge and the practical capabilities needed to identify opportunities, build organisations, and navigate the challenges of running a commercial or social enterprise. It is a field shaped by the recognition that entrepreneurship can be taught and developed, and that the skills of an enterprising thinker are valuable whether you found a business yourself or contribute to the growth of an existing one.

University College Birmingham's part-time Business Enterprise programme is designed for those who want to develop these capabilities while managing other commitments, whether existing employment, running a business, or personal responsibilities. Studying part time gives you the opportunity to apply what you learn directly to real business situations, and many students find that the interplay between academic study and practical experience is one of the most valuable aspects of the programme. The inclusion of a sandwich element and work placement provides structured professional experience alongside your academic development, giving you exposure to business environments that may differ from your current experience and extending your professional network.

Across the programme you will study business planning and strategy, financial management, marketing and sales, operational management, and the legal and ethical frameworks within which businesses operate. You will also develop the softer but essential skills of communication, negotiation, leadership, and resilience that enterprise demands. UCB's Birmingham location places you in one of the UK's most dynamic business environments, with access to a diverse range of industries and enterprise support networks.

Graduates from business enterprise programmes go on to found their own businesses, manage and grow existing organisations, take up roles in business development, consultancy, social enterprise, and corporate innovation. Postgraduate study in entrepreneurship, management, or business analytics is also open to those who wish to develop their expertise further.
