Veterinary Science: Accelerated Graduate Entry

Veterinary science is the study of animal health, disease, and welfare, drawing on biology, physiology, pharmacology, pathology, and clinical medicine to prepare graduates for professional practice across a wide range of species and settings. Veterinary professionals play a vital role not only in companion animal care but also in food production, public health, wildlife conservation, and the control of diseases that can cross between animals and humans. The profession demands both scientific rigour and the practical clinical skills to make accurate diagnoses and deliver effective treatment under pressure.

The Accelerated Graduate Entry programme at the University of Bristol is designed for graduates who already hold a degree, offering a four-year fast-track route to veterinary qualification. Because you come with an existing academic background, the programme can move at a faster pace than the standard veterinary degree, building on the scientific foundations you have already developed and dedicating more time to clinical training. You will cover the full breadth of veterinary science including anatomy, physiology, microbiology, parasitology, pharmacology, and the clinical disciplines of small animal, farm animal, and equine medicine.

Clinical placements provide hands-on experience in real veterinary environments, developing the diagnostic and procedural skills required for registration with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

Graduates qualify as veterinary surgeons and can pursue careers in small animal practice, farm animal medicine, equine practice, exotic animal medicine, and government and regulatory veterinary roles. Many also enter careers in the pharmaceutical industry, research, public health, and international animal disease surveillance. With further postgraduate study or specialist clinical training, graduates can pursue specialist registration and roles in veterinary academia and research.
