Sports journalism sits at the intersection of two enormously popular worlds: sport, which generates more public emotion and media attention than almost any other sphere of human activity, and journalism, the craft of finding, verifying, and telling stories in ways that audiences engage with and trust. The best sports journalists combine genuine love and knowledge of sport with the rigorous professional skills of reporting, writing, broadcasting, and digital production, and they work across a range of formats from breaking news and live commentary to long-form features and investigative reporting.

At the University of Salford this three-year, full-time programme trains you to move from the sofa to the press box, using expert tutors and industry-standard technical facilities to develop your skills across print, broadcast, and digital media. You will learn to report, write, and produce content about sport in all its forms, developing the speed, accuracy, and storytelling instincts that professional sports journalism demands. Salford's strong industry connections and its Greater Manchester location, at the heart of a major sports city with significant broadcast infrastructure, add genuine practical relevance to the learning environment.

Graduates of sports journalism go on to careers in newspapers and magazines, radio and television broadcasting, digital and social media, sports rights holders, PR and communications, and the content and media operations of professional sports organisations. Many begin as reporters, producers, or content creators before developing specialisms in particular sports or formats.
