Sports Journalism

Sport is one of the most consumed areas of media output, spanning news, features, analysis, broadcasting, podcasting, and digital content, and the journalists who cover it need not just enthusiasm but the rigorous training in reporting, writing, and ethical practice that all journalism demands.
At Southampton Solent University, this three-year full-time programme is the longest-running BJTC-accredited sports journalism degree in the UK, with graduates going into jobs with the biggest names in the industry. Accreditation by the Broadcast Journalism Training Council means the curriculum is directly validated by the industry, reflecting professional standards in broadcast and digital journalism. You will develop skills in sports reporting, interviewing, feature writing, digital content production, broadcast journalism, and sports analysis, learning to cover sport for print, online, broadcast, and social media contexts.
A foundation year is available for students who want additional preparation, and a sandwich year in industry and work placements are built in, giving you direct experience in professional sports journalism environments.
With a typical entry tariff of 104 UCAS points, this degree is accessible to students with genuine journalistic curiosity and a strong interest in sport.
