About this course

Sports business management sits at the intersection of sport, commerce, and management, addressing the business realities of one of the world's most visible and economically significant sectors. Sport is a multi-billion-pound global industry encompassing professional clubs, governing bodies, sponsorship and media rights, events management, sport tourism, fitness and leisure, and the growing digital sport economy. Managing within this sector requires both the standard business capabilities that any industry demands and a specific understanding of the distinctive dynamics of sport: the role of clubs and fans, the economics of broadcasting rights, the governance of sport, and the commercial relationships that underlie elite competition.

At Manchester Metropolitan University, this three-year full-time BSc programme develops your knowledge and skills across business management and its application to the sport, recreation, and leisure industries. You will study marketing, finance, strategy, human resource management, and operations management alongside sport-specific topics including the business of professional sport, sport events, facility management, and the digital transformation of the sector. The programme includes a sandwich year with work placement, giving you professional experience in a sports business setting during your degree.

This practical experience is particularly valuable in a sector where personal networks and demonstrated industry knowledge are important to employment.

Graduates pursue careers in professional sport organisations, sports marketing agencies, leisure and fitness companies, events management, sports media, governing bodies, and management consultancy serving the sector. The business management foundation means that graduates are also employable across a wider range of commercial organisations, not solely in sport. Many graduates also go on to postgraduate study in sports management, business, or marketing, and the combination of sector knowledge and business capability is a genuine asset in a competitive field.

I've grown so much academically and personally here. The best part: small-group tutorials really push your thinking. If I'm honest, a few modules feel under-resourced compared to the flagship ones. On the city β€” local cost of living is mana…
