About this course

Sport management applies business and management principles to the distinctive context of sport, an industry that encompasses professional clubs, national governing bodies, sports events, leisure facilities, sports media, sponsorship and retail. It is concerned with how sporting organisations are run, how major events are planned and delivered, how commercial opportunities in sport are identified and managed, and how the social and community dimensions of sport intersect with its commercial ones. As the sport industry has grown in scale and complexity, the demand for graduates who understand both sport and management has increased correspondingly.

At Coventry University you will study sport management over three years of full-time study, through a programme housed in Coventry Business School. You will develop knowledge of marketing, finance, human resource management, event management and strategic planning as they apply within sport organisations. A sandwich year and the opportunity for a year abroad extend the programme and add significant professional and international experience, and work placement is integrated throughout, connecting your academic learning to the realities of industry practice.

The typical tariff of 104 reflects a programme designed to be accessible to students with a genuine interest in sport and business, and Coventry's strong industry connections give the programme a practical orientation that supports graduate employability.

Graduates work in professional sport clubs and leagues, national governing bodies, local authority sport and leisure services, sports marketing and media agencies, event management companies, sport facilities and community sport organisations. Roles span sport administration, event operations, marketing, sponsorship management, sport development and commercial partnerships. Many graduates also enter the broader events management sector, where the skills developed through sport management transfer readily.

Postgraduate study in sport management, sport business or general management is available for those who wish to specialise further or move into more senior leadership roles.
