About this course

Sport, exercise, and nutrition addresses the science of how physical activity, training, and diet interact to affect human performance, health, and wellbeing. The three disciplines are deeply interrelated: exercise science examines how the body responds and adapts to physical activity, sport science applies this to competitive performance, and nutrition science investigates how dietary choices affect energy, recovery, body composition, and long-term health. Together, they provide a comprehensive understanding of the factors that determine how people perform and feel.

At the University of Huddersfield, this three-year, full-time programme develops both scientific knowledge and practical skills across all three disciplines. You will study exercise physiology, examining how the cardiovascular, respiratory, and musculoskeletal systems respond to training and how those responses are harnessed to improve performance. Biomechanics introduces the mechanical principles underlying human movement.

Nutrition science addresses macronutrients and micronutrients, energy systems, body composition, and the specific dietary demands of sport and exercise at different intensities and durations. Sport psychology adds the mental dimension of performance, covering motivation, confidence, and the management of competitive stress. Research methods and the ability to critically evaluate evidence are developed throughout, equipping you to apply the scientific literature to real-world contexts.
