About this course

Sport Conditioning and Performance Analysis is a degree that focuses on the science of preparing athletes to perform at their best and on the analytical methods used to understand and improve sporting performance. Strength and conditioning is the systematic development of physical qualities, including strength, power, speed, endurance and mobility, using evidence-based training methods adapted to the demands of specific sports and individual athletes. Performance analysis uses observational data, video, statistical methods and technology to provide coaches and athletes with objective information about performance patterns, tactical behaviour and areas for improvement.

Together, they represent the core of the sports science support that underpins elite and high-performance sport.

At the University of Cumbria, this full-time three-year programme develops high-quality, profession-specific training in an environment that includes a performance analysis suite, strength and conditioning room, human performance laboratory and comprehensive sports facilities. You will gain practical experience applying scientific research to help athletes and individuals achieve their sporting and fitness goals across a range from grassroots to elite levels. The programme has excellent links with professional sports clubs and national governing bodies, providing real-world context for your academic learning.

Sport Conditioning and Performance Analysis graduates go on to careers as strength and conditioning coaches, performance analysts, sport scientists, athletic development coaches and physical preparation specialists across professional sport, high-performance academies, university sport, community sport and the fitness industry.
