Sport Coaching and Coach Development with Foundation Year
Sport coaching and coach development is a degree that examines the science, practice, and professional development of coaching in sport. At the University of Derby, this four-year programme with foundation year prepares you to coach elite and amateur athletes and to promote the benefits of sport to the wider community. You will study the theoretical foundations of coaching across the physiological, psychological, and pedagogical dimensions of the role, alongside the practical skills to plan and deliver effective coaching sessions, evaluate athlete development, and adapt your practice to different contexts and individual needs. The foundation year provides additional preparation before the main degree begins.
The programme includes a sandwich year, a year abroad, and a work placement, giving you substantial professional and international experience.
