Sport and Management

Sport has become a major industry in its own right, encompassing professional clubs and leagues, governing bodies, sports facilities, health and fitness businesses, events management, sponsorship and media. The ability to manage organisations in this sector requires both a genuine understanding of sport and physical activity and the commercial, leadership and analytical competencies that effective management demands. A combined Sport and Management degree equips you with both, producing graduates who can think strategically and operate practically in a sector they are genuinely passionate about.

At Abertay University in Dundee you will follow a four-year full-time programme that includes a year abroad, giving you the chance to experience sport management in a different national context and to build an international perspective on how the industry operates. The programme is designed to develop the vocational and social skills as well as the management knowledge that employers in the sport and physical activity sector look for. You will study areas such as sports business, events management, marketing in sport, human resource management, sports development and the governance of sporting organisations.

Graduates move into careers as sports development officers, sports administrators, events managers, facility managers, marketing professionals in sport, and roles in national governing bodies, local authority sport departments, leisure trusts, professional sports organisations and health and wellbeing providers. Some pursue postgraduate study in sports management, sport business or related fields, and others move into broader management careers in sectors adjacent to sport.
