Sport and Exercise Science
Sport and exercise science is the rigorous application of biological, physiological, psychological, and biomechanical knowledge to the understanding of human movement, physical performance, and the health effects of exercise. It is a field that spans from the cellular and physiological mechanisms through which training adaptations occur, through to the psychological factors that influence motivation, performance under pressure, and the adoption of healthy behaviours. Sport and exercise scientists work in elite sport, public health, clinical settings, and research, contributing to better understanding of how the human body responds to physical demands and how that knowledge can be applied to improve performance and wellbeing.
At the University of Bedfordshire, this three-year full-time programme develops your scientific understanding of the physiological, psychological, and biomechanical dimensions of sport and exercise. You will study exercise physiology, sports psychology, biomechanics, sports nutrition, and research methods, developing both theoretical knowledge and the practical skills to carry out scientific investigation in sport and health contexts. Bedfordshire's sports science provision has been recognised for teaching quality, and the programme is taught by staff who engage actively with research in the field.
You will develop laboratory skills, data analysis competencies, and the ability to evaluate scientific evidence critically, all of which are essential for professional work in sport and exercise science.

Graduates go on to careers as sport scientists, strength and conditioning coaches, exercise physiologists, sport and exercise psychologists (with further study), health and fitness professionals, and applied researchers. Many work in professional sport, leisure, public health, or rehabilitation settings. Postgraduate study in applied sport science, exercise physiology, or sport psychology is a common route.
