Sport and Exercise Science
Sport and exercise science examines the scientific foundations of human physical performance and the role of physical activity in maintaining health across the lifespan. Drawing on physiology, psychology and biomechanics, it asks how the body adapts to training, what limits performance in different sports and exercise contexts, and how exercise can be used to prevent and treat chronic disease. At the University of Hull, this three-year full-time degree prepares you for careers supporting athletes, active populations and health-focused individuals, developing both the scientific understanding and the practical skills that professional roles in this field require.
You will study exercise physiology, sport psychology, biomechanics, anatomy, nutrition and research methods, developing the ability to assess, test and interpret human performance and to design and evaluate exercise interventions. Hull's programme emphasises the dual application of sport science to athletic performance improvement and to public health and wellbeing, reflecting the reality that exercise physiologists and sport scientists now work in both sporting and clinical contexts. Laboratory and applied practical work run throughout the curriculum, developing your technical competence alongside theoretical understanding.

Graduates pursue careers as sport scientists, performance analysts, strength and conditioning coaches, exercise physiologists, sport development officers, health and fitness practitioners and exercise referral specialists.
