Spanish/Mathematics
Spanish and mathematics is a genuinely unusual combination, pairing one of the world's most widely spoken languages and its associated literary and cultural traditions with the abstract and universal language of mathematics. Spanish gives you access to the Iberian Peninsula, Latin America, and the significant Spanish-speaking communities across the globe, as well as to a literary tradition of extraordinary richness and a contemporary culture that is politically, economically, and artistically vital. Mathematics develops a very different kind of intelligence: the capacity for rigorous abstract reasoning, proof, and quantitative analysis, skills that are valued across a remarkably wide range of professional and academic contexts.
At the University of Glasgow, this five-year full-time programme takes the combination seriously on both sides, building genuine linguistic fluency alongside real mathematical depth. You will study Spanish language and literature with staff who are native speakers from different parts of the Spanish-speaking world, giving you exposure to the linguistic diversity that characterises the language as it is actually used. On the mathematics side, you will develop from foundational calculus and algebra through to advanced topics in pure and applied mathematics.
The programme includes a sandwich year in industry and incorporates work placement, both of which provide structured opportunities to gain professional experience in a context related to your studies. The typical entry tariff of 216 points reflects the academic demands of the combined programme.
