About this course

Software engineering is the disciplined application of engineering principles to the design, development, testing, deployment and maintenance of software systems. While computer science is largely concerned with the theoretical underpinnings of computation, software engineering focuses on the process of building large, complex, reliable software in real-world conditions, where requirements change, teams are distributed, systems must perform under load and errors can have serious consequences. It is a discipline that combines technical depth in programming and systems design with the process knowledge, communication skills and professional discipline that large-scale software development demands.

At Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge this three-year, full-time programme builds your programming expertise and takes it further, developing the software engineering competencies that employers in technology, finance, healthcare and every other sector that depends on software are seeking. You will study software design, programming languages, algorithms and data structures, object-oriented and functional approaches, testing and quality assurance, software architecture, version control, agile and other development methodologies, alongside professional practice and project management. The degree holds accreditation from a professional body, providing recognition that the programme meets industry standards.

You will build a portfolio of software projects over the course of the degree that demonstrates your capabilities to future employers.
